Bio Growing up in the Boston area, vocalist and songwriter Trina Aitken isv making her mark in the music and media industries. In her youth she began developing her voice by singing in choirs and started writing lyrics and poetry at the tender age of eight. She cites Stevie Wonder, Chris Isaak, Pink Floyd, Aretha Franklin, and Led Zeppelin among the chief musicians that influenced her style—a blend of rock, R&B, and jazz. After private music studies in voice and guitar, Trina continued her musical training at Berklee College of Music where she earned her degree in 2004. Trina is a seasoned performer and an active figure in the Boston Music scene. She has appeared at numerous clubs, high profile special events and music festivals throughout New England with various ensembles and as one half of a duo she formed with jazz guitarist and fellow Berklee alumnus Ron Bosse. She is also no stranger to the recording studio and can be heard on a dozen recording projects by local and regional artists in a variety of pop music recordings and professional commercial campaigns.
In addition to being an accomplished vocalist, Trina is songwriter with something to say, who takes her writing very seriously. “I’ve never written a song that was meaningless to me,” she says. “The songs all stem from significant moments and thoughts about my life.” Her song topics range from love to murder, fine art to simple pleasures, and chronicle things she has experienced first-hand or witnessed in the lives of those around her. As an educated, musician, Trina has given a lot of thought to the songs she has written for the debut CD she plans to release this Spring. “I’ve spent a lot of time wondering if I should add more complexity to melodies that I was already happy with, or whether I should depart from familiar song forms in order to create more interesting songs.,” she says. “But Removing a bit of the ‘science’ from my songwriting and digging into to my romance with music has helped me come up with the vibe that I’d been looking for, both for my own songs and my collaborative works. I’ve become confident that good musical taste and sensibility are part of who I am. I see it come through in my music.”
The songs she has compiled display her artistic range. She characterizes “Soul Singer” as a jazzy, Carole King-style love song. “Starry Night" as a light and funky groover, and “I Begin Again” is slow and sultry American rocker. Her first single, “Sound of My Heartache,” combines a number of styles. “It’s kind of the ambassador for all the tunes because it has elements of each in it,” she says. “It’s got blues, rock, nice full chords, and a modern sound, and it’s a true story that's close to my heart.” Sound of My Heartache" and other music from Trina is available for download through iTunes and Amazon.com.
In addition to her recording/writing career, Trina is also the cofounder and of Weymouth's Bosse Studios, where she currently serves as the director. The establishment is one of the most well knwon centers for the study and recording of contemporary music in the state. Trina's artistic and professional writing contributions have helped fellow musicians and business acheive their recording and publicity goals by adding quality music and copy to their projects. A diploma in Public Relations/Publicity from New York University and a B.A in Music from Berklee College of Music coupled with 10 years of professional experience give Trina unique insight and experience that set her apart from the rest.
